Copper Mark
As part of The Copper Mark initiative, we promote responsibility along the entire value chain. The requirements of the Copper Mark standard define responsible and sustainable business practices in value chains for non-ferrous metals, with the exception of precious metals. Aurubis has integrated these requirements into the management of its sites and has its compliance regularly audited by an independent body. These audits enable us to obtain suggestions for further improvement, which we pursue with concrete action plans. Six of our sites are currently certified as compliant, with two more sites to follow.
The Copper Mark is an initiative that involves reviewing the sustainability standards of copper production sites, including mines, smelters and refineries. The Copper Mark covers the 33 sustainability criteria of the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) Risk Readiness Assessment, including topics such as compliance, child labour, environmental protection and occupational safety.
Copper Mark is also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Since August 2024, 38% of the copper produced worldwide has come from sites that have been awarded the Copper Mark. The following Aurubis sites participate in Copper Mark:
- Hamburg
- Pirdop
- Lünen
- Olen
- Beerse
- Stolberg
- Deutsche Giessdraht Emmerich
- Avellino

For gold production, Aurubis has been certified as conflict-free annually since 2013 in accordance with the standards of the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA). The certificate proves that we carry out our due diligence processes in accordance with OECD standards. Since 2019, this certification option has also been available for silver – Aurubis' silver production has also been certified as conflict-free since then. Tin production at our Beerse and Berango sites has been certified as conflict-free since 2015 in accordance with the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process Standard (RMAP) of the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI). This standard is also based on the OECD standard for conflict minerals. Furthermore, Aurubis will apply the International Tin Association's ‘Tin Code’ standard for the first time in 2025 at its Beerse and Berango sites and have it audited for compliance with the Priority Standard ‘Responsible Sourcing’.
