Copper Mark

The Copper Mark is an initiative reviews the sustainability standards of copper production sites, including mines, smelters and refineries. A pilot project is currently underway with companies in the downstream copper processing sector.

The Copper Mark covers the 32 sustainability criteria of the Risk Readiness Assessment from the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI), this includes issues such as compliance, child labor, environmental protection and occupational safety.  The Copper Mark is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. For the responsible sourcing criterion for copper, lead, nickel and zinc, The Copper Mark has additionally developed a due diligence standard that is also designed to meet the standards for responsible sourcing of metals of the London Metal Exchange (LME), one of the world's most important metal exchanges.

We support industry solutions such as the Copper Mark and aim to promote responsibility across the value chain. Through External certification from an independent body that verifies our compliance with the Copper Mark sustainability standards we increase and demonstrate our own sustainability performance.

The two Aurubis AG sites - Hamburg and Lünen - as well as Aurubis Bulgaria have already been awarded the Copper Mark.
