Aurubis publishes first ESG Factbook 2024/25: Strengthening ESRS-aligned transparency and comparability
Hamburg | Monday, March 2, 2026
Aurubis has published its first ESG Factbook for fiscal year 2024/25, providing a consolidated, data-driven overview of the Group’s environmental, social and governance performance. The publication is a central transparency tool. It complements the ESRS-aligned Group Sustainability Statement in the Annual Report and enhances the Aurubis’ Tomorrow Metals sustainability promise.
The ESG Factbook consolidates ESRS- and GRI-disclosures as well as additional key ESG KPIs needed for major ESG rating and assessment providers.“
With the ESG Factbook, we are systematically expanding transparency and comparability in our sustainability reporting,” says Vedrana Lemor, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Aurubis.
Key figures at a glance
Aurubis invested €155.4 million in environmental protection in fiscal year 2024/25. Cumulative environmental protection investments since 2000 amount to €1,172 million.
Dacarbonization and energy
In climate and energy, Scope 1 emissions in 2024 amounted to 496 thousand t CO₂eq and Scope 2 emissions to 495 thousand t CO₂eq, resulting in combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions of 991 thousand t CO₂eq. Scope 3 amounted to 4,548 thousand t CO₂e.
Aurubis already produces many of its metals with less than half the CO₂ emissions of the global competition. For copper cathodes, Aurubis’ carbon footprint is more than 60% below the global average of all copper smelters.
With the ESG Factbook, we are systematically expanding transparency and comparability in our sustainability reporting.

Circularity and recycling
Advancing circular solutions is central to the Aurubis strategy and also a core pillar of Tomorrow Metals. The average recycled copper content in Group copper cathodes reached 45 %. Product-specific recycled content ranged from 38 % for Aurubis Rod to 70 % for Aurubis FOXROD and BARS & PROFILES, 58 % for silver and 100 % for tin.
People, safety and responsibility
As of September 30, 2025, Aurubis employed 7,190 people worldwide, including 307 apprentices. The apprenticeship retention rate in Germany was 73.3 %. According to the Group’s living wage assessment, 100 % of employees received wages above locally applicable living wage benchmarks.
ESG ratings and certifications
The ESG Factbook documents Aurubis’ positioning in leading ESG ratings. In 2025, Aurubis received an EcoVadis platinum medal with a score of 85/100, placing the company again among the top 1 % of rated companies. Additional results include a B score in CDP Climate Change 2025 and an A- score in CDP Water Security 2025.
All Aurubis’ production sites are broadly certified under environmental, energy, quality and occupational health and safety standards, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 45001. Nearly the entire Aurubis Group in Europe operates under the Copper Mark standard, an independent sector sustainability standard.
Clear 2030 targets
The ESG Factbook states the clear Aurubis’ 2030 sustainability targets. These include a 50 % reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2018, a 24 % reduction in Scope 3 emissions per ton of copper cathode, and a target of up to 50 % average recycled content in copper cathodes by 2030. In responsible sourcing, Aurubis’ 2030 target is to double the number of certified or audited sources for copper concentrates; the Factbook also sets the FY 2024/25 baseline, with 25% of copper sources already certified or audited. Further targets address responsible sourcing, environmental protection, occupational safety, training, adequate wages and social engagement.
“The Factbook shows where Aurubis stands today,” says Lemor. “It underlines our ambition to lead in sustainability with transparency by reporting consistently and comparably, and by making progress trackable over time. We walk the talk.”
About the ESG Factbook
The ESG Factbook serves as a standalone reference for capital markets, customers and other stakeholders. It consolidates ESRS- and GRI-disclosures as well as additional key ESG KPIs relevant for leading ESG ratings. The reporting period covers October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025, with a scope largely mirroring the Group’s financial consolidation, and also including calendar year information for relevant environmental data.
The full ESG Factbook 2024/25 is available online on the Aurubis website and will be updated annually.
