Copper Trader
Location: Hamburg
With Aurubis since: November 2016
How did you find out about Aurubis as an employer, and what made you decide to join Aurubis?
From my experience in small and large companies, I knew that a corporation was the right place for me to work. So I searched for large companies and their vacancies on Stepstone, which is how I came across Aurubis. The decisive factor for me was the combination of an exciting job and a competitive salary.
What has your career at Aurubis been like so far? Have you held different positions or perhaps even worked in different departments and locations since you started at Aurubis? If you haven't been with Aurubis for very long, what are your impressions and experiences after your first few months?
I started as Customer Service & Front Office Manager at Aurubis and then moved to my current position in the same department within a year. However, I first had to grow into the position of Copper Trader and was therefore given a five-year plan for the job. During these five years, I got to know and internalised all facets of the position.
What has motivated you in your career so far? What motivated you to take these career steps (at Aurubis)?
During my career, I have found that a positive working environment motivates me the most. At Aurubis, I have always found this to be the case. A good atmosphere motivates me greatly to advance in my job. After all, colleagues who work with each other rather than against each other can achieve a great deal. This basic idea has motivated me to take certain career steps.
What do you do in your current role at Aurubis? Feel free to give examples of current projects, if applicable.
1.14 million tonnes per year, but we also purchase external copper cathodes to supply our copper product facilities. In addition, I purchase pure copper scrap for direct use in our copper product facilities.
I am currently also involved in a Tomorrow Metals workstream. The important issue of sustainability accompanies us in all our activities and is now to be further developed and deepened.
What do you particularly like about your current job?
The international aspect. Interacting with customers and suppliers all over the world always brings new perspectives. But I also really like the internationality of our team. You always hear exciting stories from other countries.
How would you explain your job to a toddler?
I buy and sell copper metal. It's in all electrical wires, and everyone needs it so that all our devices that require electricity can function. But when I buy the copper, our production department has to make it very thin and long so that it can be used as an electrical wire. When I buy it, it comes in the form of a large, thin plate called a copper cathode. We also produce a lot of these plates ourselves, which is why I sell them so that other people can use them to make electrical wires.
Which five technical terms are important for your work?
- Copper cathodes
- Fixing period
- Tomorrow Metals
- Trading, budding arm
What makes Aurubis unique for you?
Aurubis has an incomparable mix of tradition and future. On the one hand, it maintains tried-and-tested methods, and on the other, it drives innovation. Aurubis is also a pioneer in the industry in terms of sustainability and responsible sourcing, which I personally support very much. We work in an industry that manufactures products that can make a decisive contribution to a more sustainable future. However, this must also be done in a sustainable manner, and Aurubis is a leader in this field.
If Aurubis were a person, what would characterize that person?
Responsible, knowledgeable and with great potential.
Is there a big dream that you would like to fulfill someday?
A little house with my family on the Doveelbe.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to play sports with friends at the gym, doing CrossFit or playing football. I also like to plan trips with friends and sail different boats on those trips.
