"Aurubis Bulgaria AD implemented an Energy Management System in line with the requirements of ISO 50001:2018. The company successfully passed the audit and was certified by the expert organization SGS with the international standard, which sets the requirements for the development, implementation and improvement of the energy management policy.

ISO 50001:2018 is based on the continuous improvement model and the Energy Management System is integrated with the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System already implemented at Aurubis Bulgaria. This ensures the integration of the company's energy policy into the overall strategic framework for management of processes and environmental protection. The introduction of the standard ensures alignment with international best practice for managing energy-related processes, systems and teams and promotes energy efficiency throughout the supply chain.

Aurubis Bulgaria's energy policy is an integral part of the company's sustainable development strategy and is based on three main pillars: introducing new technologies to improve efficiency and reduce energy costs, gradually increasing the share of energy produced from own renewable sources and ensuring of optimal conditions for external supplies.

In 2022, the company launched Bulgaria's largest private solar park with an installed capacity of 10 MW. Next two solar plants, Aurubis-2 and Aurubis-3, are due to be built. All the lighting on the plant site has been replaced with LED. A project to replace energy-consuming motors with new-generation ones is in progress, and there are also ongoing projects for replacement of the hydropower plant's turbine with a more efficient one, further utilization of excess heat and developing of a wind power installation. Aurubis Bulgaria's long-term strategy envisages the plant to meet 20% of its energy needs from own renewable sources by 2030 and 50% by 2050.
