Rakan Rahbani has been appointed Executive Director of Aurubis Bulgaria AD, a leading company with structural importance for the national economy, part of the global non-ferrous metals provider Aurubis AG. He will assume the role on October 1, 2025.
Rakan Rahbani (41) has been with Aurubis AG since 2018, most recently in the role of Director of Strategic Cross-Functional Projects based Hamburg, Germany. Prior to joining Aurubis AG, he held several managerial positions with Glencore and Russell Mineral Equipment. His broad international experience includes projects in Canada, Europe, Australia, South Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Rakan Rahbani holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and has further specialized in mineral processing, business development, and corporate finance.

Tim Kurth, who has led the company for the last 11 years, will focus on his international role. Tim Kurth has been Chief Operating Officer of Aurubis AG since 2024 and will remain with Aurubis Bulgaria as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The new Board of Directors of Aurubis Bulgaria AD consists of Rakan Rahbani, Tim Kurth, and Dimo Kirilov, elected to a three-year term at the General Assembly of Shareholders on September 19, 2025.
Aurubis Bulgaria AD operates the copper plant near Pirdop and Zlatitsa and is a leading exporter and importer of structural importance for the Bulgarian economy. The company is now implementing EUR 400 million investment program aimed at increasing refined (cathode) copper production capacity, in-house renewables, energy efficiency, and enhancement of environmental performane.
