Bulgaria | Saturday, July 4, 2026
- The special anniversary route marked the 160th anniversary of the international Aurubis Group and, for another year, transformed the Srednogorie region into a place for sports, community, and an active lifestyle
Over 250 participants covered 60 kilometers in honor of Aurubis AG’s 160th anniversary during the eighth edition of the “Aurubis Srednogorie Bike Tour,” organized by “Aurubis Bulgaria” in collaboration with the “Begach” and “Koloezdach” sports clubs. The special anniversary route brought together cycling enthusiasts of all ages and from various towns and villages, united by an active lifestyle, nature, and the spirit of the Srednogorie region.
Participants from all over the country traveled from Sofia Central Train Station to the starting point in the village of Gorna Malina on the special Aurubis Bike Train, thereby making their first sustainable choice - to replace the car with the train. From the village of Gorna Malina, the cyclists set off on a 60-kilometer route to the town of Pirdop. The route passed through the picturesque roads of the Srednogorie region and offered the opportunity to combine the sporting challenge with the beauty and atmosphere of the region.
The “Aurubis Srednogorie Bike Tour” is part of the long - term “The Beautiful Srednogorie” initiative, through which “Aurubis Bulgaria” invests in community development, quality of life, and the promotion of the region. The event is not a competition—its mission is to promote physical activity, a connection with nature, and shared experiences among people.
Shortly after noon, the center of Pirdop welcomed the first cyclists to complete the route through the Srednogorie region. They crossed the finish line at 12:05 p.m., and among them were eight representatives from Aurubis. This year, the company’s team was among the largest groups in the bike tour, with over 80 employees and their family members participating.
The participants spanned three generations, with the youngest cyclists being 10 years old.
“We would like to thank Aurubis Bulgaria for organizing the bike tour for another year. It gives people from all over the country the opportunity to see our region. Take a ride—it’s very beautiful and there’s plenty to see,” said Angel Gerov, mayor of the municipality of Pirdop, at the closing of the event.
“The smiles, the good spirits, and the energy I see here today are the best proof that these nearly 60 kilometers have filled the participants with wonderful emotions. What’s most valuable is that every year we see more and more people, more smiles, and a stronger connection to the Srednogorie region,” added Dimo Kirilov, Director of Production at Aurubis Bulgaria.
The eighth edition of the “Aurubis Srednogorie Bike Tour” is another step in Aurubis Bulgaria’s long - term commitment to the region’s development. The company consistently invests in initiatives that promote sports, an active lifestyle, education, culture, and the sustainable development of local communities.
