Brent has been working at Aurubis Beerse for almost three years as a Procurement Buyer – Non Metals. He is responsible for purchasing a wide range of materials and services while supporting major investment projects. In this role, he collaborates closely with colleagues from various departments and with suppliers.

> What attracted you to Aurubis Beerse?
For me, it was the combination of working for an international company with a strong local character and the many opportunities to keep learning. Since joining Aurubis, I've gained a much better understanding of our different processes and departments. By visiting suppliers and regularly spending time out on site, I've developed a clear picture of our operations and the challenges our colleagues face every day.
The welcoming atmosphere also stood out from day one. Everyone was approachable, supportive and willing to help, making it easy to feel part of the Aurubis Beerse team.
> What does your role as Procurement Buyer – Non Metals involve?
I mainly support CAPEX projects, which are major investment projects within Aurubis Beerse. We work closely with departments such as Engineering to understand their needs and technical specifications, and then identify the most suitable supplier(s).
In addition, I'm responsible for several purchasing categories, including mobile equipment such as cranes and wheel loaders, waste management, and more.
My role is very diverse. I collaborate with departments including Engineering, Finance, Legal and Production. As Procurement, we ensure that materials and services are purchased under the right commercial conditions, helping to support the company's day-to-day operations.
> What does the purchasing process look like from start to finish?
It usually starts with a business need. Together with the internal customer, we determine exactly what's required and identify the best solution.
We then search for suitable suppliers, request quotations and compare different options. Besides price, we also assess quality, reliability, safety and other relevant criteria.
Once a supplier has been selected, we take care of the administrative follow-up, including purchase orders and, where necessary, contracts, right through to the delivery of the goods or completion of the service.
> Sustainability is a key focus at Aurubis. How does that influence your work?
Sustainability also plays an important role within Procurement. When selecting suppliers, we look beyond purchase price alone. We take factors such as safety, quality and sustainability into account. Whenever possible, we also consider local suppliers and look for solutions that align with Aurubis' sustainability targets.
> You work with many different departments and colleagues. How do you experience that collaboration?
The collaboration is excellent. I work with almost every department across the company. Colleagues know they can come to me with their questions, and together we look for the best solution.
We also work closely with our colleagues at Aurubis Olen. We exchange knowledge and collaborate on joint purchasing projects, making us stronger as two Belgian Aurubis sites.
> What gives you energy in your job?
The combination of people and variety. You build a strong network within the company and get to know colleagues from many different departments. It's rewarding to complete projects together and see the impact of the work you've contributed to.
The atmosphere within our team also makes a big difference. We're a close-knit team of seven colleagues, and during lunch breaks we often go for a walk together, which is a great way to recharge during the day.
> What makes Aurubis a great employer?
I enjoy working at Aurubis Beerse because it combines an international industrial environment with a people-oriented company culture. Everyone is approachable, and it's easy to reach out to colleagues with questions. There's a strong sense of teamwork, with everyone contributing to shared success.
I also really appreciate the activities that bring colleagues together. Our employee association, 't Kopergieterke, organises activities such as padel and football, giving you the opportunity to get to know colleagues from other departments as well.
> Which skills are most important in your role?
Communication is essential. I interact daily with internal stakeholders and suppliers, many of whom are based internationally, so a good command of both Dutch and English is important.
Analytical skills are equally valuable. Comparing quotations, carrying out cost analyses and evaluating different options all require accuracy and the ability to see the bigger picture.
> Who are you outside of work?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends. I also like running and playing recreational football. In general, I enjoy staying active and spending quality time with the people around me.
