Meet Lander, AP Accountant - Analyst & Reporting at Aurubis Beerse. Together with his colleagues, Lander ensures the accurate processing and follow-up of invoices and payments. In his role, he is in daily contact with various departments and suppliers, which brings a lot of variety and great collaboration.

> You work as an AP Accountant - Analyst & Reporting. What exactly does your role involve?
I support the Accounting team and help ensure a smooth and efficient flow of our financial processes. Concretely, we process invoices and make sure suppliers are paid correctly. Based on various reports, I perform checks to detect errors so they can be corrected before I prepare financial reports (such as Intrastat, balance confirmations, tax haven reporting, etc.) for internal and external stakeholders.
My role is mainly controlling and analytical, but also highly communicative. I continuously collaborate with colleagues from different departments, which makes my job very interesting. It helps me better understand the company, my colleagues, and how the different departments operate.
> What do you enjoy most about your job?
No two days are the same. I work in a very solution-oriented way and enjoy thinking about how we can make processes more efficient. When you reach a solution together or implement an improvement, it is truly rewarding.
In addition, you are constantly learning. Because you collaborate with so many different departments, you get a very broad view of the company. Aurubis Beerse strongly focuses on innovation, digitalisation, and sustainability, which ensures continuous development and challenges you to think ahead.
> You work closely with different departments. How does that go?
We collaborate intensively with Logistics, Customer Service, Procurement, and Treasury, among others. I really enjoy that human interaction. You always try to find solutions together, with everyone contributing from their own expertise. That team spirit is very strong here. Colleagues help each other and are always willing to think along.
> How is the atmosphere within your team?
We have a diverse team of nine colleagues within the AP team (Accounts Payable), and the atmosphere is very positive. We also work closely with our GL Accounting colleagues. Openness is important, and everyone supports each other. The team is approachable, and you can always reach out to one another.
My colleagues and I also regularly go for a walk during lunch. It’s a nice way to get some fresh air and get to know each other in a more informal setting. It really helps you feel at home quickly.
> How do you experience the work-life balance?
For me, it is very good. I can work from home one day a week, which I use to work calmly and focus on specific projects. On the other days, I prefer coming to the office because I value personal contact with colleagues. This combination works perfectly for me.
> Which skills are important in your job?
Flexibility and adaptability are key. We work in a constantly evolving environment, so it’s important to stay up to date with new systems and ways of working. Aurubis strongly invests in innovation and digitalisation, which means you are continuously learning.
Strong communication skills are also essential, as you are in contact with many different departments and suppliers. Regarding languages, Dutch and English are important. English was not my strongest subject at school, but by using it daily at Aurubis and interacting with colleagues from other sites and suppliers, I have become much more comfortable and fluent.
> Which skills have you developed further in your role?
I have learned to prioritise better and communicate more clearly. Openness is very important, and discussing things and helping each other move forward ensures progress as a team.
