The Bulgarian site is the first Aurubis primary smelter to successfully complete the Copper Mark certification process and now bears the quality seal. The certification verifies that Aurubis Bulgaria produces copper sustainably.
The cathode is the basic product of copper production. It is produced in a marketable form at Aurubis for use in high-quality applications.
Sulfuric acid is the most necessary and versatile chemical substance in the world. The product is used in almost all industrial sectors. Typical areas of use are the production of fertilizers and pigments as well as in metal ore extraction.
Due to the metallurgical process technology, the slag from the flash furnace and the converters contains residual copper which is extracted through grinding and flotation. Two products are obtained at the slag flotation plant: flotation copper concentrate and flotation product called fayalite or Iron-Silicate Fines (ISF).
Aurubis Bulgaria’s main source of copper raw materials is the copper concentrates produced by the copper mining industry. We smelt more than 1.2 million tons of copper concentrates originating from North and South America, the Black Sea region and Bulgaria.
