So Jonathan, how did you end up at Aurubis Beerse?
I was contacted via LinkedIn by an HR colleague about the Back Office Hedging position. The job immediately appealed to me: analytical work, an international environment, and a clear link with sustainability. After completing an online safety test and a great interview, I was ready to start. -
What exactly does your job as Back Office Hedging entail?
My main task is managing price risks — also known as “hedging.” Since raw material prices can fluctuate significantly, I make sure we’re protected against price drops when purchasing materials. I do this through stock exchange transactions, eliminating that risk. In addition, I analyze data, prepare reports, and contribute to process optimizations around hedging.

Which skills are essential in your role?
Strong numerical skills, analytical thinking, and a critical mindset. The commercial flows are quite complex, so precision is key. I’m a perfectionist — and that definitely works in my favor in this job. -
What gives you energy in your job?
The combination of challenge, variety, and impact. You’re very close to the commercial core of the company while also contributing to a broader, sustainable mission. It’s satisfying to know that my work supports the growth of Aurubis Beerse. I really take pride in what I do! -
Do you collaborate much with other teams?
Yes, especially with the Customer Service team. They provide me with the details on which volumes need to be fixed on which day, and I take it from there. I’m also in daily contact with the Hedging team at our headquarters in Hamburg and with Customer Service colleagues at our site in Berango, Spain. That international aspect makes the job even more interesting.

How would you describe the atmosphere at Aurubis Beerse?
There’s a warm, informal vibe. You can really feel the history of the place — both literally, through the old brick walls and the chimney, and figuratively: there’s so much knowledge and dedication here. That’s what makes us a strong company.
Aurubis Beerse and our employee association 't Kopergieterke also regularly organize afterwork activities. For example, we’re invited to take part in Run To Walk Again, a relay race in support of To Walk Again. This year will be my second time joining. -
Tell us more about Run To Walk Again — what’s it all about?
Run To Walk Again is a 10-hour relay race in support of To Walk Again, a nonprofit based in Herentals. Together with colleagues from our Aurubis sites in Beerse and Olen, we participate as the “Aurubis Team” to raise money for the cause. Our team runs as many 3 km laps as possible. Last year was our first time, and we almost made it into the top 3! It’s a great way to contribute to a good cause while also strengthening team spirit in a fun and sporty way.
