- Focus on the circular economy and strengthening the EU single market for waste stream.
- Dialogue on the REACH revision and the need for a predictable, workable risk management framework.
- Discussion on environmental and water files with attention to realistic standards and a level playing field across Europe.
On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Inge Hofkens (COO Multimetal Recycling Aurubis), Hans Van de Water (Managing Director Aurubis Olen) and James Watson (Director General Eurometaux) welcomed Jessika Roswall to Olen. The European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy visited the Aurubis site in Olen together with Luis Herrera, a member of her cabinet. Roswall also stopped by neighboring company Umicore. In addition to Eurometaux, the International Copper Association Europe (ICA) was also present.
During her visit, Commissioner Roswall gained a unique insight into the production and recycling of copper – a critical and strategic raw material for the European economy and an important enabler of the green and digital transition.
At Aurubis, we showcased how we contribute to a circular economy every day by producing high-quality metals from primary raw materials and recycling streams. The visit also provided an opportunity to engage in a dialogue on European regulations that will shape the future of our industry.
The visit concluded with a roundtable discussion highlighting the challenges and priorities of the non-ferrous metals industry. Commissioner Roswall emphasized the importance of striking a healthy balance between environmental and health protection, as well as the crucial role our industry plays in building a sustainable future.
