The SKiB Campus in Pori has been nominated for the 2026 Finlandia Prize for Architecture. Completed in 2025, the campus brings together education, culture and community within a carefully designed urban environment.
The award nomination highlights the project’s carefully considered material choices and the bronze façade of the new Kulturhuset Fiini building. Designed to darken naturally over time, the façade flows around the playground and connects the new building with the campus’s older architecture. The jury also describes the design and execution of the entire project as consistently high-quality work. Read more about the nomination.
A dialogue between different eras
Designed by JKMM Architects, the SKiB Campus combines two renovated historic buildings, a red-brick school from the 1960s and Rosa Huset from the 1930s, with the new Kulturhuset Fiini cultural centre. Together, the buildings form a compact urban campus of 10,858 square metres.
Kulturhuset Fiini houses a multipurpose hall, restaurant, café, library and smaller meeting spaces. The campus creates a shared environment where educational facilities serve the wider community and cultural activities enrich everyday school life.
Brick, bronze and timber
The campus architecture is defined by a dialogue between brick, bronze and timber. The warm Nordic Bronze surface complements the historic brick buildings while giving Kulturhuset Fiini a distinctive contemporary identity.
Over time, the copper façade will darken naturally, strengthening the connection between the new building and its surroundings. Inside, timber structures and natural wood surfaces create a warm environment that brings the different parts and eras of the campus together.
Art is also integrated into the campus architecture, including works by Milla Vaahtera, Laura Mertz and sound artist Tytti Arola.
Designed for long-term use, the campus combines durable material choices with an environment created to support learning, culture and community for generations to come.
