Aurubis has kicked off the 2026 training year with a strong cohort. A total of 93 young people have recently begun their apprenticeships, dual study programs, or entry-level training at the company’s German locations in Hamburg, Lünen, and Stolberg, as well as at Deutsche Giessdraht in Emmerich—a subsidiary of the Group.
At the Hamburg plant, 57 apprentices and dual-track students were welcomed, along with nine additional young people in the AV 10-Plus program—the latter is offered in collaboration with the Schule auf der Veddel and the Vocational School for Steel and Mechanical Engineering and provides young people with practical experience to help them transition into future apprenticeships. At the recycling site in Lünen, 15 apprentices began their professional careers; in Stolberg, another ten started; and at Deutsche Giessdraht, two began their training.
With this new cohort, Aurubis is making a targeted investment in its skilled workforce in Germany. This year, the company is providing training in 14 technical, scientific, logistical, and business-related occupations and degree programs, thereby focusing on the long-term development of its own talent.
Once again this year, we were able to fill all of our apprenticeship positions. Demand for these positions remained strong. In times of a skilled labor shortage, this is by no means a given and shows us that Aurubis is an attractive employer for many young people. As a leading multi-metal company, we supply around 20 strategically important metals that form the foundation for digitalization, the energy transition, electromobility, and many other future technologies. That is precisely why training our own skilled workers is of central importance to us.

“For us, training is an investment in the future. That’s why I’m all the more pleased that 15 young people are starting their careers with us here in Lünen. At one of the leading metal recycling sites, they’ll experience firsthand how modern industry is evolving. We offer them an environment where they can take on responsibility early on, contribute their own ideas, and actively help shape the future of our site,” emphasizes Verena von Weiss, plant manager at Aurubis Lünen.
“Well-trained skilled workers ensure that innovations become a reality and that industrial production remains successful in the future. That’s why we’re committed to investing in high-quality training and are delighted to welcome ten new apprentices to Aurubis in Stolberg,” says Dr. Benjamin Cappi, Managing Director of Aurubis Stolberg.
Innovative and Digital Formats for Applicants
When recruiting new apprentices, Aurubis relies on modern formats. In Hamburg, where Aurubis is the second-largest industrial training provider, high school students can use the Virtual Hanseatic Apprenticeship Exchange to gain a realistic insight into everyday work in metal production through virtual reality technology. As one of the first participating companies, Aurubis is thus supporting an innovative form of career guidance that the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce presents in schools and at apprenticeship fairs.
This training marketing effort is complemented by digital communication channels. On Instagram and TikTok, apprentices provide authentic insights into their daily work, apprenticeship programs, and events. Interested individuals can also easily ask questions about apprenticeships, internship opportunities, and the application process via a WhatsApp contact option.
At the Lünen site, trainers and apprentices focus on personal interaction with potential new recruits at various career fairs. Those who make a particularly strong impression during the conversation receive one of the limited-edition Golden Tickets—these are specifically awarded only to selected talents. If included with the application, applicants receive an immediate invitation to an initial interview.
In Stolberg, the Aurubis site works closely with schools in the region: Here, school classes with a focus on technology are invited to the plant to gain a detailed insight into career opportunities.
