Aurubis moves into new corporate headquarters in Hamburg’s HafenCity

Hamburg | Monday, July 13, 2026

  • Around 650 employees relocate to the new corporate headquarters at Brooktorkai 18 in July 2026
  • Location delivers attractive cost efficiency and sustainability
  • New building fosters collaboration and exchange while maintaining close proximity to the central Hamburg plant

Aurubis AG, a leading global provider of non-ferrous metals and one of the largest copper recyclers worldwide, has moved to its new global corporate headquarters at Brooktorkai 18 in Hamburg’s HafenCity. The relocation of the company’s central corporate functions from the nearly 70-year-old previous headquarters at Hovestrasse 50 has created a contemporary workspace for around 650 employees.

Around 7,100 m2 of office space on five floors now offers an innovative working environment tailored to international cooperation following approximately two years of planning and construction. Flexible spaces featuring 400 modern workstations, conference rooms, focus workspaces, and advanced digital infrastructure create the conditions for seamless cooperation across functions, sites and national borders.

“Our new corporate headquarters is an optimal solution that brings together cost-effectiveness, modern working conditions, and close ties to the Hamburg site,” Aurubis AG CEO Dr. Toralf Haag said. “The new workplace environment also creates the ideal conditions for accelerating our cultural transformation.”

Prioritizing cost efficiency and sustainability

The new location stood out as the most financially attractive option compared to either a complete overhaul of the former headquarters or a new building on the Hamburg plant premises. It was also an opportunity to realize a completely new workplace concept without investing additional resources in new construction.

Through more efficient use of space, the overall office footprint was reduced while conference rooms to promote cooperation were doubled. Next-generation digital tools and processes replace paper-based workflows, enabling rapid access to information regardless of location and supporting a low-paper organization.

Sustainability was a central consideration in the operation of the new office space. At the new HafenCity location, Aurubis receives heat from the same district heating network into which carbon-free industrial heat from the Hamburg plant is fed. The electricity supply at the new Aurubis headquarters is sourced exclusively from renewable energy. The new building also offers plenty of bike racks and a total of 44 charge points for electric cars. There are 144 parking spaces for employees in the building and additional spaces in adjacent parking garages. Optimal access to public transportation encourages environmentally friendly commuting.

“Our goal was to further enhance our attractiveness as an employer without losing touch with our industrial identity,” Aurubis AG COO Tim Kurth said. “With the new headquarters, we’ve combined modern working conditions with continued close ties to our Hamburg plant. Long term, the move opens up space for expanding production capacity at the Hamburg plant — a key building block in strengthening the site.”

A building for the working environment of the future

The new corporate headquarters has been consistently designed around forward-looking forms of cooperation. The working environment is based on a flexible concept featuring home zones, collaboration hubs, and focus areas. Activity-based workspaces optimally foster interaction and innovation while enabling focused individual work. Modern conference and communication technology also facilitates cooperation with the Group’s international sites.

Working environment as a catalyst for cultural development

The new corporate headquarters serves as an important lever for Aurubis’ ongoing cultural evolution. The work environment has been intentionally designed to encourage teamwork, knowledge sharing, and networking. Short distances, open spaces for exchange, and flexible collaboration areas connect people, functions, and perspectives.

The new office space supports the advancement of an even more connected, international, and performance-oriented company culture, is a key enabler in successfully realizing the Group’s strategic growth and transformation objectives, and gives Aurubis an edge in the competition for skilled professionals.

Close ties to the production site

Located approximately 3 kilometers as the crow flies from the production site, the new headquarters maintains a strong link to the Hamburg plant. Aurubis is offering innovative shuttle options for employees while maintaining sufficient space for the group functions to work at the main plant, thereby ensuring close collaboration going forward. The new headquarters combines the benefits of an innovative urban workplace with strong ties to the company’s industrial heart.
