Environmental protection at the CABLO site
CABLO Metall-Recycling und Handel GmbH (CABLO), with two sites in Fehrbellin (Brandenburg) and Nersingen-Strass (Bavaria), is the specialist for metal/plastic separation in the Aurubis Group.
The company primarily recycles cable production waste and cable scrap. CABLO recovers raw materials that are like new by separating the individual cable components, returning high-quality granules from non-ferrous metals to the raw material cycle. The metals, some of which are already extremely pure, are processed with chemical methods, in semi-finished product manufacturing plants, and in smelters. Some of the plastic waste is directly reused in traffic sign pedestals, traffic cone feet, and other plastic products.
CABLO’s integrated management system (IMS) is certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 (quality), ISO 14001:2015 (environment), ISO 50001:2011 (energy), SIPAM (risk management in scrap purchasing), Council Regulation (EU) No 333 (waste aluminum and steel scrap), and Council Regulation (EU) No 715 (waste copper scrap). Occupational health and safety are also part of the management system.
The company focuses on continuously enhancing energy efficiency (reducing CO2 emissions) and increasing material recovery rates, to name just two measures.

Specific CO2 emissions per ton of metal output
Different energy sources are used in the treatment facilities for cable scrap recycling. The diagram shows the specific CO2 emissions calculated from all energy sources in the production of 1,000 kg of metal granules.
