Business Units

The Group is represented along the copper value-added chain. It integrates the production of primary copper and precious metals, the recycling of secondary raw materials and the processing of copper into products.

The Business Units (BU) are categorized in three segments from an organizational viewpoint: BU Primary Copper, BU Recycling/Precious Metals and BU Copper Products.

BU Primary Copper unites all activities that are concerned with the production of quality copper in the form of marketable copper cathodes from the primary raw material, copper concentrates. This includes the smelting and refining operations at the sites in Hamburg (Germany), Olen (Belgium) and Pirdop (Bulgaria) as well as the German subsidiaries Peute Baustoff GmbH and Retorte GmbH Selenium Chemicals & Metals, which produce specialty products.

This BU also produces and markets sulfuric acid.

The core business in BU Recycling/Precious Metals is the production of copper cathodes from a wide variety of recycling raw materials. Recycling activities take place at different locations. The recycling center is located in Lünen (Germany), where not only copper scrap but also complex recycling raw materials, such as electronic scrap, are processed using environmentally friendly and innovative technologies.

Other subsidiaries and affiliated companies are active in raw material trading and treatment, such as the Aurubis subsidiaries Elektro Recycling NORD GmbH and CABLO Metall-Recycling & Handel GmbH.

In BU Recycling/Precious Metals, Aurubis also produces the by-metals and co-products contained in the copper raw materials. These include gold, silver and platinum group metals in particular, as well as lead, nickel, bismuth, tin, antimony, zinc, selenium and tellurium products and compounds.

BU Copper Products continues the copper value-added chain in the Group.
It comprises all activities related to the production of copper products. In the first processing stage, Aurubis produces continuous cast wire rod (sites in Hamburg (Germany), Avellino (Italy) and Emmerich (Germany) and continuous cast shapes (site in Hamburg). Continuous cast shapes are processed into pre-rolled strip and subsequently into strips and shaped wires, either at the affiliated company Schwermetall Halbzeugwerk GmbH & Co. KG (50 % Aurubis holding) or by the customers themselves.

Aurubis is known worldwide as a producer of top quality rolled products and is proud to be able to deliver especially thin, high-performance, reliable and pure products. At its sites in Stolberg (Germany), Zutphen (Netherlands), Finspång (Sweden), Pori (Finland) and Buffalo (USA), Aurubis produces an extensive portfolio of rolled products made of copper and copper alloys, from standard copper to high-quality special alloys, such as brass alloys, copper-tin alloys and our special CuproBraze® alloy. Overall, the alloy portfolio includes over 60 alloys made of the special copper materials DHP, OF, OFE, ETP, XLP, HPC and PHC; brass alloys, including BlueBrass® CuZn42, the standard alloys Ms63 and Ms70 and the phosphor bronzes CuSn2 - 12; and special alloys, such as CuFe and CuNiSi.

With Aurubis’ Nordic product range produced in Pori (Finland), architects can implement durable individual solutions that provide high value even for future generations. Aurubis offers products and services for civil engineering based on copper as the raw material. These include flat copper sheets with various surface qualities, finished systems for facades, roofs and rainwater drainage and a new roof system with integrated solar panels.

Slitting centers in Dolný Kubín (Slovakia), Birmingham (United Kingdom), Mortara (Italy) and Zutphen (Netherlands) expand our service range and produce strip in all required dimensions.

Complex specialty profiles are produced at Aurubis Switzerland.

High-quality wires with a focus on brass alloys for machining and forming technology are fabricated at Aurubis Stolberg. BlueBrass provides the market with a lead-free machining solution. The Specialty Wire division is currently expanding the portfolio with special copper alloys.

Furthermore, Aurubis has an extensive sales and distribution system in Europe, Asia and North America.

Apart from the Business Units, cross-group administration and service sectors have been set up as Corporate Functions. They ensure that production runs smoothly and provide internal services. These include Research & Development, Human Resources, Accounting, IT and Material Procurement.
