Aurubis’ achievements at the Avellino production site

Thanks to modern cleaning and filter plants, Aurubis Italia uses production processes that cause minimal off-gas and wastewater, and are so effective that they convert raw materials almost completely into products. With the help of state-of-the-art facilities and processes, a substantial amount of waste heat generated by the processes is used.

Two main cleaning facilities are in operation in the Avellino plant:

1. a treatment facility for cleaning combustion fumes that form during the smelting process
2. a collection and treatment facility for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) coming from the rolling mill

Apart from significantly decreased emissions and the connected improvement in ambient air quality in the vicinity of the plant, routine readings also indicate an improvement in workplace conditions.

“The production processes in Avellino are so efficient that the feed materials are processed almost in their entirety into products. Additionally, the waste heat arising from this is utilised to a large extent. In 2010 we implemented a recording and monitoring system for environmental data, which we are optimising in 2011. In this way our successes in environmental protection can be documented even better: copper and dust emissions as well as total carbon emissions have been successfully reduced in the last few years.”
