Aurubis works manager in Lunen recognised for outstanding commitment
Hamburg/Lunen, 19 April 2010 – Dr Franz-Josef Westhoff, works manager of the Lunen recycling centre of Aurubis AG, Europe’s largest copper producer, has been recognised for his long-term positive contributions to the people and industry of the town of Lunen (North Rhine Westphalia) in the economic, social, corporate, ecological and cultural sectors, by the initiative „Pro Lünen“ on Saturday (17 April) and presented with the first-time award „Lüner Kopf“ (Lunen Head).
„This prize should symbolise recognition and praise for the recipient, the appreciation of his achievements and at the same time be an incentive to him to continue to make a contribution to Lunen in this way“, declared the laudator Heinrich Lages, board member of „Pro Lünen“. The award was presented by Hubert Tenberge, the Chairman of the initiative.
Dr Westhoff expressed his thanks for the honour saying: „I consider this award as recognition for my about 490 employees at the Aurubis recycling centre, because the recognised commitment is only possible in a team.“
On the occasion of the prize-giving, the initiative „Pro Lünen“ also spoke in favour of a positive outcome to the approval process for the KRS-Plus project (Kayser-Recycling-Sytem), which mainly targets the erection of a new additional smelter, including further environmental protection measures in the amount of € 17 million that will expand and secure the site of Aurubis Lunen. The planned total capital expenditure of € 62.5 million will also result in the creation of 40 new jobs.
