Aurubis Buffalo hires David Bissonette as Director of Environmental Health and Safety

Aurubis Buffalo is proud to announce the new hire of David Bissonette as Director of Environmental Health and Safety.

The ideal candidate for this position is one who embodies Aurubis Buffalo's ongoing passion for creating a better tomorrow and who puts forth authentic care for the environment and the safety of those who work in it. All these qualities are found in excess with the hire of Mr. Bissonette.

In hiring Mr. Bissonette, Aurubis gains a proven leader who can provide valuable oversight to the sustainability of environmental health at the plant and the safety of all its employees.

In his ‘First 100 Days’, he has his priorities set on building and developing a safety culture along with stressing the importance of maintaining compliance with regulations. Under Mr. Bissonnette’s leadership, Aurubis looks to draw and implement a more valued and sustainable safety culture.

A longtime employee in the field of environmental health and safety compliance, Mr. Bissonette officially became a member of Aurubis Buffalo’s executive team in July of 2023. Along with his warm demeanor, Mr. Bissonette brings with him over two decades of professional experience.

Previously, Mr. Bissonette worked as a health and safety manager for Perry’s Ice Cream, General Mills, and most recently Washington Mills. Acquiring his position at Washington Mills only a few months into the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Bissonette drew from his decade's worth of experience as his town’s emergency manager and disaster coordinator to ensure that safety compliance was at the top of his company’s priorities. Coupling ingenuity with decades of relevant job experience, he acted as a pioneer in his field when it was needed most. These qualities point to a polished professional ready to make a mold of his own in the copper industry.

Additionally, Mr. Bissonnette has served his hometown of Clarence, NY as the Disaster Coordinator and Emergency Manager for more than 30 years. Mr. Bissonette is a 42-year life member of the Clarence Fire Department and has served multiple terms as fire chief and fire commissioner. He is best known for his emergency management leadership in the response to the crash of Continental Flight 3407 in 2009. Mr. Bissonette was responsible for the overall coordination of the tragedy that took 50 lives.

Now joining forces with a new senior leadership team here at Aurubis Buffalo, Mr. Bissonette is eager and certainly able to pick up where he left off in making sure safety compliance is at the forefront of every company decision.

“I’m a progressive leader myself,” says Mr. Bissonette. “And when I saw the [senior leadership] group here, I thought, ‘This is a team I’d like to be a part of’.”
